Decoys by Bob Jobes!!

Captain Bob Jobes at his shop

...Born and raised in Havre de Grace, MD, nationally known as "The Decoy Capital of the World", Captain Bob has spent the last 30 years of his life carving decoys.
Captain Bob is the oldest son of Captain Harry R. Jobes. Captain Bob, his two brothers (Charles and Joey), and Captain Harry of which all carve decoys for their livelihood. They are nationally famed for their creativeness of wooden decoys. Bob produces miniatures to full size decoys.
...Captain Bob started carving at a very early age with his father at R. Madison Mitchells shop, while his father was at work there. He learned the tradition of carving decoys from many of the "great masters"; Madison Mitchell, Jim Pierce and most of all from his father, Captain Harry R. Jobes. Captain Bob is a multi-skilled outdoorsman, but mainly specializes in waterfowl hunting, where he has spent much of his time roaming the Susquehanna Flats and Bay areas. After graduating from high school he fished and crabbed commercially ,for 9 years, until gradually the fishing industry was shut down, in the area. After many hunting trips for ducks and Geese, the realistic beauty of the real birds was brought to his attention.
...In the early eighties Captain Bob decided to put forth all his efforts into the decoy business. He is located in the original Jobes home. He now has his own style and techniques and produces over 22 species of decoys for you to collect and to enjoy. He also produces miniature decoys, lamps, pen sets and award plaques.
...Bob has put on many demonstrations and lectures on carving and collecting of decoys in museums and at other private functions. Captain Bob also is a charter member of the Havre de Grace Museum. He continues to make decoys in the Jobes tradition of carving and is already passing this unique talent onto his children. Bob exhibits his decoys at most of the major decoy shows throughout the U.S. His decoys can be found on display along with other masters of the art at the "Havre de Grace Decoy Museum".

Most varieties of decoy may also be made by Bob in an attractive ANTIQUE STYLE. Both full size, and 1/2 size. They really look like they have been used for some time and are more affordable to collect and admire. These pictures are for your viewing and are of our collection or some that have been sold and are not necessarily currently available for sale.

We do have many of Bob's decoys for sale at "Showcase of Decoys" Click on the Picture for the full size picture

  • The Pair of Baldplates arrived this weekend.... The duck decoys, again, traveled well in their packaging and were better than I had hoped when I received my first glance. They have a nice proportion to their heads and bodies and the paint represents a high quality effort. These birds will be proudly displayed in our home and already have caught the eye of two neighbors when dropping in. My complements once more to Capt. Bob Jobes for his true skills and beautiful work. Thank you Nick for your assistance in getting all the logistics to work so smoothly. My best to all of you on the East Coast. Be well, and I look forward to future auctions and doing business again. regards, Stephen Trost Hollister, CA
